Throughout our lives we will all experience grief and loss and we are supported by our friends and family during these sad times; this is how we cope. However, for some the pain of loss is prolonged and intense and can manifest into chronic grief. 

The symptoms of chronic grief are very similar to those of depression and are characterised by intense feelings of sadness with nothing to look forward to, losing any sense of purpose in life, struggling to get out of bed, sleep disturbance and lack of enjoyment in life.

Physical symptoms may also be experienced such as a loss of appetite, irritable bowel syndrome, aches and pain.
